Its been a while since the blog has seen an entry - so what better time than Christmas! I have to tell the truth - I drafted this in pieces - so I could remember what has happened over the last few weeks!! What a fun few weeks it has been!
Week 1 in Melbourne (Nov 3rd to 10th) - Post Melbourne Cup antics it was time to commence the job hunt. So I went to the bottom of the "summer" side of the jansport wardrobe and rooted out an interview outfit!!! My god was it hard to pack work clothes for going travelling - but Im glad I did! 1st interview was a success and landed me a job in a financial services company in the Melbourne Central Business District until Christmas!
We officially live in "The Dungeon" for the next two months - and are sharing a living space with all boys. Interesting I hear you say......hmmmm. English boys and other non-irish guys. None I'd write home about - sorry Mammy, looks like I might just get left on the shelf your always teasing me about!!
Settled into work the following week - tough going getting up early in the morning - and going to put work clothes on instead of a bikini :( Money for travels though!!
Week 2 in Melbourne (Nov 11-18th) - GOT PAID!!! Woohoooo - this is a foreign feeling - money going into my account......I could get used to this! Joined a gym - St Kilda Sea Baths. Check it out - if not only to see the absolute Beauty and Graces that I get to gym with every day. Unbelievable talent. The Shelf looking less likely this week!! I go to the gym every day. You all can guess why!
Josephine and Conal have arrived in Melbourne for a few days - so we are all seeing the sights of Melbourne before they jet off to NZ!
All us girls in the penthouse and dungeon decided to head out on Friday night to suss out the fine public house establishments in St Kilda (where all da Oirish live) - well we got so "merry" on 2dollar bottles of Woolworths wine - we got turned away from Not 1- Not 2 but 3 bars in St Kilda. It was hilarious at the time. Bit cringey the next days. Wasnt my fault of course ;)
Week 3 - Well Settled into work now - go to the gym pretty much every day at this stage, girls have now said I go there "for a wash" more than going to the gym or going to by bodypump/body attack classes. Must admit - I am very much liking the routine we have in Melbourne. Very different lifestyle to that of a backpacker! This weekend we went in to visit the Christmas Windows in Myer (Ozzie version of Brown Thomas) - and some of the Home and Away crew were there to officially launch the windows! So we met this infamous Brax. And what a big Sha-wing he was. My mother would most definitely approve of me bringing that lad home. No such luck tho ;) Many photos and heart palpitations later we came back down the planet earth! They did give us signed photos though - which was very boyzone'esque of them!

Week 4 - Yet another week of working and gymming and drinking vino most evenings. Hard life really! Myself and Leona hit the Great Ocean Road for the weekend. The rest of the gang are doing it in January. We set off at 7am on Sat morning - torrential rain. That didnt stop until 7am on Sunday morning. We had a lovely crew on our bus - 15 girls and 2 lads! No chance of meeting my FEH - but I got over that fairly lively! Great Ocean Road was very pretty indeed, see photos below of the 12 apostles (there is currently only 8 of them cos they keep falling down!). We stayed over in a horse stud, we had kangaroo for dinner! Tasted just like steak - yumm!!! Next morning we headed off super early and went to a Zoo. With Kangaroos. I got a serious fit of the guilts, I actually apologised to one, not sure if it understood me. And Koalas, cutest cuddliest things I ever did see. Its against the law to hug them in the State of Victoria so we just got far-away pics!
Later that day we headed to Philip Island to see the Penguin Parade. Now this was just unbelievable. Possibly the highlight of my travelling life so far. Sitting on a beach waiting for the sun to go down - and then see 100's of teeny tiny penguins leave the water to climb up the hills to their little homes. These are the smallest penguins in the world - they weight 1kg and are 30cm in height (so v tiny!). The get blinded by the flashes of cameras - so no pics im afraid - but there were some funny signs in the car park!
Week 5 (up to 4th December!)- Getting Closer and closer to Christmas! And its getting hotter in Melbourne - very strange to be hearing Christmas songs and going around in shorts! 1st mumblings of 12 Pubs happened - this is going ahead on the 17th December - again totally random that we are going to be doing bars along a beach front for the 12 pubs this year! We visited the night markets in The Victoria Markets. Such a cool evening - so many nice places to eat and drink. Am really loving the lifestyle in Melbourne and could see myself living here (sorry mammy)...even got word of a job offer starting in February to stay in Melbourne. Scary thought getting sponsored - but exciting at the same time.
Week 6 - Still working, and gymming and working some more! This week we got all dolled up and went to the "Irish Ball Downunder" - an Irish ball or sorts organised by two irish girls in Melbourne. Great night was had - which was helped by a free bar..unlimited bubble Take 1!! Had the Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and unlimited sparkling vino. Lots of funny things happened that night - accidental handbag swapping, late night house parties to mention only two! Met some nice Irish boys too ;)
Week 7 - Busy week for SJ - finished my Christmas shopping, went ice skating (Ronan Boyle welcome to Melbourne!) - he even got wined and dined in the penthouse with the company of the 6 of us girls! I was invited to the State Trustees Christmas Lunch (wowee - 1st square mean this backpacker has seen in 4 months!!)) followed by KK - where I got a dribbling kit (of the football variety) and a toolbox full of chocolate. Definitely a present for a boy - but fun all the same! This then followed by an apres work party in LaDiDa night club - with yet another free bar...unlimited bubbles take 2!! Saturday 17th December was our 12 pubs. Oh Mo Dhia - see photos below. Was only fit for for the bed come Sunday!
Week 8 (19th Dec - 26th Dec) - Its Christmas!! Detox going on in the penthouse and dungeon...no alcohol to be had on school nights this week! Last week in work - going to miss the STL crew...but I shall most definitely me keeping in touch with the lovely crew that I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know. Its all gymming and last minute present buying this week. My present from Aunti Maggie hasnt arrived yet - super upsetting, I know what it is tho - Secret Possession Fun-der-wear and Galaxy Chocolate!! God help the customs officer that checks that package...bras n chocolate ;) Say a prayer it arrives before I leave! This is my last week in Melbourne...we fly to Sydney on the 27th. We stay there for New Years and then Im off on a well earned holiday to Fiji!!
On that note - I want to wish you and all of yours the very very best - have a fabulous Christmas and all the best for 2012!!
Hope you are enjoying the blog!
